What You Should Know about Colorado Health Insurance
Colorado residents, just like millions of people across the country, are struggling to find and keep adequate health insurance coverage. While most Colorado residents, approximately 57%, have employer-based health care coverage, what you should know about Colorado Health Insurance coverage, is that there are options available for those who do not have, or can not get, health care coverage.
CoverColorado offers a statewide range of coverage plans for residents who do not qualify for any other insurance provider such as Medicaid or Medicare, do not have employer-based coverage, and are considered to be in the high-risk pool, due to a pre-existing condition, which prevents them from obtaining health insurance through the private sector.
Although Colorado has a good ranking in their overall health care among residents, it also ranked high in the number of pregnant women who are not receiving adequate prenatal care. Pregnant women may qualify for insurance coverage through Colorado’s Medicaid or the Child Health Plan Plus program. While these programs are income based, many residents qualify.
## Colorado’s Child Health Plan Plus
Colorado’s Child Health Plan Plus insurance program covers children under the age of 18 and pregnant women over the age of 19, who do not qualify for Medicaid, do not have health insurance coverage, and who meet income requirements. The costs are based on income, with enrollees paying low or no monthly premium, low enrollment fees, and low co-pays. Child Health Plan Plus is an HMO insurance program and uses medical services within the network. The HMO a resident would be a part of is dependent on the county where they live. Some counties have more then one HMO, in which case the enrollee would have to select the HMO that they want to join. Child Health Plan Plus covers prescription medications and provides dental care through Delta Dental of Colorado, also.
While Colorado health insurance through the privatized insurance sector or through employer-based insurance may not be available to all Colorado residents, Colorado continues to find solutions to assure that all residents have adequate health insurance coverage.
